Women's District Competition Rules

Wellington District 36 Hole Stroke Play Championship

Competition

  • 36 hole stroke play
  • Three Divisions:   
    • Senior:             NZG Handicap Indices up to 10.4
    • Intermediate:   NZG Handicap Indices 10.5 – 16.4
    • Junior:             NZG Handicap Indices 16.5 – 40.4
  • The Champion shall be the player returning the lowest 36 hole gross aggregate score. In the event of more than one player returning the same score, the trophy will be held jointly.
  • Played on a course on the Kapiti Coast, Wellington or Wairarapa on a three year rotation basis.

Number of Participants/Format

The Host Club to determine

  • the maximum number of players
  • the starting time and number of starting tee

It is recommended that play be in threes, with the same draw for am and pm rounds.

Prizes

  • Excluding the longest drive, or nearest the pin, no player may win more than one prize.
  • Excluding the Champion, all other ties will be decided by count back
  • Prize List for each Division (depending upon the number of entries)
  • 1st 36 hole gross aggregate; 36 hole Net Aggregate; 36 hole Stableford Aggregate
  • 2nd 36 hole gross aggregate; 36 hole Net Aggregate; 36 hole Stableford Aggregate
  • 3rd 36 hole gross aggregate; 36 hole Net Aggregate; 36 hole Stableford Aggregate
  • 4th 36 hole gross aggregate; 36 hole Net Aggregate; 36 hole Stableford Aggregate
  • 5th 36 hole gross aggregate; 36 hole Net Aggregate; 36 hole Stableford Aggregate

Champion of Champions and Gross Stableford Rosebowl 

Champion of Champions

 Eligibility

  • Open to all current Silver and Bronze Champions of all Member Clubs in the Wellington District.
  • A Club Champion who has transferred to another club may still represent her previous club.
  • If the Club Champion is unavailable, the Runner-up may compete.
  • The players participate in the Division for which they won their Club Championship.

 Current Club Champions

  • There must be at least two players competing in the relevant Club Championship before the winner is eligible to participate in the Champion of Champions tournament.
  • The Club Champions may have been determined from either stroke or match play championships.
  • Where a club offers two styles of Club Championship (stroke & match), it must determine prior to both these events, which Champion will participate in the      Champion of Champions.

 Handicap Changes

  • Any player whose handicap has changed between the time of the Club Championship and the Champion of Champion’s tournament will participate in the Division in which she won the Club Championship.
  • This applies even if her current handicap index would put her in another Division.

 

Recommendation for Draw

  • Division Champions should be drawn together – ie Silvers, Bronze
  • It is recommended that the Championship draws be seeded
  • Play should be in threes.
  • Tee arrangements to suit course

 GROSS STABLEFORD ROSEBOWL

 Club Team

 A Club Team comprises two members

- The Club Silver and Bronze Champions or

- The leading Silver Division player and the leading Bronze Division player, if a club has only an Open Championship (either stroke play or match play)

Should a player be a champion of more than one club she may play as a member

of the team for each club.

 Substitutes

 Silver & Bronze Stroke Play Championships:

If a prescribed team member (as above) is unavailable the club may substitute the next available player who finishes closest to the winner of her Division. 

- Silver & Bronze Match Play Championships:

If the Silver or Bronze Champion is unavailable, the runner up may be substituted, or a losing semi-finalist 

- Open Match or Stroke Play Championship:

If a prescribed team member is unavailable, the Club may substitute the next available player who finished closest to the winner in her Division. 

Competition

Team Competition: The aggregate of the two team member’s individual 36 hole gross Stableford scores (ie without application of handicap). 

Example of Stableford Points scoring for all players

Par 5 hole: Any Player’sgross score:

4 = 3 points; 5 = 2 points; 6 = 1 point; 7 = 0 points

Determining the Winners

  • Each club’s team      score will be the aggregate of the two team member’s individual 36 hole      gross Stableford scores.
  • Ties: A count      back of the Teams Gross Stableford Aggregate (GSA) will apply to determine      the winning team. The count back will be on the last 18, then last 9,6,3  or 1 hole.

National Club Teams Championship - Wellington District Final

Eligibility/Qualifying

Clubs:

  • may hold qualifying rounds for the National Tournament - an individual net 18 hole event, between 1 March and 15 Aoril annually.
  • may hold more than one competition day to ensure all eligible players (indices up to 40.4) have the opportunity to participate (e.g. mid week & weekend.)
  • shall charge an Entry Fee part of which is paid to NZ Golf.

Players who belong to more than one club may compete in the club competition at each of their clubs but may represent only one club at the District Final.

Club Teams

  • The four players returning the lowest net scores, and who will be available to play on the date of the District Tournament, will qualify for the Team to represent their club.
  • Ties shall be determined by count back
  • If a player who has qualified for the Club team is subsequently unable to play in the District Final, that player shall be replaced by the player with the next lowest net score in the club’s qualifying round. Any further replacements shall be in the order of the net scores in the qualifying competition
  • Clubs will enter their club teams by completing the Entry Form for the District Final and sending it, together with the original score cards of the four team members, to WGI

District Finals

  • Must be played between 20 April & 31 May
  • Must be played on a Course with a women’s NZG Course Rating of 70 or higher

District Final Competition

  • The format is a four ball better ball stroke play
  • The four players from each club are paired by their home club and drawn in different fours.
  • Players NZG Handicap Indices on the day of the District Final apply.
  • NZ Golf supplies a special card for recording the 4 ball scores on the day.
  • In addition to these special cards, players must keep and return individual score cards for the day.
  • The four ball net scores of the two pairs from each club team will be aggregated at the end of the round to determine the team’s score.
  • The winning team is the team with the lowest aggregate net score.
  • Ties will be decided by count back of the aggregated scores.

District Prizes

  • The First, Second & Third placed teams shall receive prizes

National Winners

  • WGI will record the details of the Winning District Team on the Form provided and return it, together with the original scorecards, to NZGolf by the date specified on the form
  • The net differential of the District Winners will be determined by comparing the four ball net score to the women’s NZGA Course rating.
  • The team with the best net differential will be awarded the National Trophy.

In the event of a tie, a count back will apply.

 

Wellington 18 Hole Stroke Play Championships

Including Club Teams Challenge Match

Divisions

  • Senior:             NZG Handicap Indices up to 10.4
  • Intermediate:   NZG Handicap Indices 10.5 – 16.4
  • Junior:             NZG Handicap Indices 16.5 – 40.4

Club Teams Challenge Match

  • Clubs may nominate teams of three players (a maximum of one in each Division) on or before the commencement of play.
  • Clubs with insufficient players to enter a team in the Senior Club Teams Challenge may elect to nominate intermediate player/players in the Senior team. These intermediate players, for the purposes of the Teams Challenge only, deduct the course equivalent of an Index of 12.4 to determine their net score.
  • The team recording the lowest aggregate net score in each Division will be awarded the Club Teams Challenge Rosebowl. (3 Trophies)

Format

  • The host club, in consultation with the General Manager WGI, to determine the starting time and number of starting tees.
  • It is suggested that play be in threes.
  • In the event of insufficient entries in the Senior Division, the Senior & Intermediate Divisions may be combined.

Prizes

  • For each Division – subject to the number of entries
  • Championship Winner – lowest gross score
  • Championship Runner-up
  • Best Net
  • Net Runner-up
  • Best Stableford
  • Stableford Runner-up

In the event of low entries, it is recommended the Stableford prizes be omitted.

Apart from Long Drive & nearest the pin, no competitor may win more than one Prize.

Note: In the event of more than one player returning the same score in any of the Championship Divisions, the trophy will be held jointly but the prizes will be determined by count back.

  • The Teams Challenge Rosebowl for the Senior Stroke Tournament was presented by the late Mrs E Land, Royal Wellington Golf Club

The Championship Jugs and the Junior Teams Rosebowls were donated by the District.

 

Wellington 72 Hole Strokeplay Championships

Played in conjunction with the Men's Stroke Play Championships

 

District Veterans' Championship

Eligibility

Open to any player

  • with a NZG handicap index of up to 40.4
  • who is aged 50 years and over

Competition

Stroke play in Divisions: Silver up to indices of 18.4

                                        Bronze indices of 18.5 – 40.4

Prizes

Championship: Gross

  • Silver & Bronze Divisions     Winner
                                                  Runner-up

 Senior Veteran’s Trophy:   

  • Best net score from overall from players 65 years of age or over

 Stableford Winner:

  • Best Stableford score (overall)

Ties for Trophies shall remain as ties and the trophies will be held jointly but countbacks shall apply for accompanying prizes

No player shall win more than one prize and the order of precedence is as per schedule above.

Any other prizes shall be awarded based on overall Stableford points.

District Nine-hole Championship

Eligibility

For players with NZG Nine hole Handicap indices

Divisions

  • Championship Division:    Handicap Indices up to 20.2
  • Stableford Division:   Handicap Indices 20.3 – 27.2
  • Competitors holding Local Handicap Indices are eligible to compete in the Stableford Division only and will play off Local Course Handicaps determined by their Handicap Indices.

Format

Stroke play over 9 holes.

Championship Division  - Winner 9 hole net score
                                       - Runner-up
                                       - 2nd Runner-up

Stableford Division         - Winner 9 hole Stableford
                                       - Runner-up
                                       - 2nd Runner-up

Trophies

  • District 9-hole Trophy
  • In the event of a tie, the trophy shall be held jointly.

Recommendations for Host Club

  • Starting time: 9.30am
  • Play in threes
  • If a nine hole course is used, it is suggested that the maximum field be 54 players.
