Wellington "Sweep" Quadrangular

Wellington Men's, Women's and Men's Masters teams have secured a 2nd consecutive Shand Cup, Sybil Green Salver and Stu Smith Memorial Trophy, clean sweep at the annual quadrangular event for these 3 trophies.

The Quad was held at the fanatstic venue that is Te Ngutu GC in Hawera, wonderful course and facility, and incredible club members who provided oustanding organistion and hospitality to the 4 province's, 12 teams .

On the 2nd day of this event, round 3 on Sunday morning, all 3 Wellington teams faced near neighbours Manawatu/Wanganui in matches that would decide the outcomes.

The Men's team established a small lead early and eventually closed the match out 5.5 - 2.5 to secue the Shand Cup.

The Masters team lead their match from the get go, a couple of late birdies securing a claensheet and a convincing 5.5 - 0.5 result to win the Stu Smith Memorial. A fitting deciding match given the trophies significance, and his home province having been Man/Wang.

The Women's team needed a minimum of 3.5 points to better Man/Wang in the standings and a 4 all draw to guarantee the trophy ahead of the other teams. At 4 - 3 to Man/Wang in completed games it came down to team manager Anita Harkerss, who with borrowed clubs and no golf in a few months had stood in for an unwell player. Harkerss won the final hole to win 1up and secure a 4 all draw and the trophy. A fitting final act to the weekend and the alreday secured 2 Men's titles.
