Make Time, Play 9!!

The second year of Make Time Play 9 – Road to The Open is off to a flying start!

Make Time Play 9 is New Zealand Golf’s initiative promoting a shorter format of the game. We understand our sport has its restraints around time, but we can all make time in our day to do something that is important to us. Make Time Play 9 encourages people to make time in their day to do things that are meaningful to them, to be active, to be with their friends and family, to take on a new personal challenge, and to have fun.

This year, we have a goal of getting more people outdoors and making time for 9-holes than in 2019. In October last year, 41,748 golfers got outside for 9-holes and handed in a scorecard.

At the beginning of October, we challenged you to help us beat these numbers, and you listened!

During the opening month of Make Time Play 9 in 2020, we saw this number increase by 36% to 56,815 scorecards handed in!

Last year, New Zealand was one of the leading countries with increased participation in rounds played with 211,461 9-hole scorecards entered. We are well on track to beating that number this year, so let’s keep up the momentum by Making Time for 9.

October Make Time Play 9 winners are off to Millbrook!

Make Time Play 9 in conjunction with The R&A offers nine golfers the opportunity to get on the road to The Open.

Over the course of the Make Time Play 9 season, nine lucky golfers who have handed in a 9-hole scorecard are randomly selected to play in their own competition on the new 9-hole layout at Millbrook Resort. The two winners will earn themselves a once in a lifetime trip to the 149th Open Championship at Royal St. Georges.

We are pleased to announce the two October winners of Make Time Play 9 who will head down to Millbrook resort are Karen Whittred from Remuera Golf Club and Kerry Claydon-Wade from Ashburton Golf Club.

Karen says “I am very excited about playing at Millbrook for Make Time Play 9. Millbrook is probably my favourite destination in New Zealand & I love playing golf there. There are heaps of variation & challenges in their three 9-hole courses.”

Kerry says: “I’m super excited to have the chance to play at Millbrook, I have seen so many reviews on the course and could be any happier to have the experience of my own. I love being able to get out and play nine for the exercise and just being able to practise on my game.”

To get in the draw all you need to do is Make Time and Play 9, and hand in a 9-hole scorecard. Every 9-hole round you play will contribute as a new entry, whether it is during a club competition, summer twilight, or a round with friends to encourage you to play more!

Make sure that you get in the draw. Turn off the devices, get out in nature and make time with your mates, your work colleagues, your partner, or your family to play nine.

Start making time for the things you love.
