Carmen Blackler

Carmen has a strong interest in golf, which was ignited back when she was a student at the University of Canterbury and her boyfriend at the time (now husband) suggested it was a sport they could enjoy together.

Her passion for and experience with the sport includes playing, watching, volunteer coaching and administration of junior programmes.   In recent years, Carmen’s sports administration and management background has included roles such as:-

  • Currently
    • WGI Board Member
    • WGI Talent Development Manager
    • WGI U19 Representative Boys Manager
  • Previously
    • WGI Operations Manager (acting)
    • Miramar Watt Cup Manager
    • Junior Coordinator – Miramar Golf Club & previously Manor Park Golf Club
    • Level 1 Junior golf coach – for both Miramar Golf Club & previously Manor Park Golf Club

In temporarily fulfilling the operations role at Wellington Golf Inc, Carmen has also gained highly valuable experience and insight into the inner workings of a sporting governing body.  She has first-hand experience of what works well, and where there are potential improvement opportunities. In this role, she has also developed good working relationships with the High-Performance teams from both NZ Golf and Sport Wellington, which with the help of the WGI support officer, has enabled WGI to refresh and refocus its Junior Academy.
