Wellington players spread across field at SI Age Group Champs in Tinwald

Round One of the South Island Age Group Championship tournament kicked off today at Tinwald Golf course in Ashburton.  Wellington has seven players in the field (including two exchange students who are playing at Paraparaumu while studying in New Zealand).  These players include Thomas Woods, Aiden Blackler and Sam Marsters (Miramar) and Cooper Wattam, Alex Lopez-Sanchez, Champ Thitisak and Niklas Moser (Paraparaumu).

Alex Lopez-Sanchez carded the best first Round for the Wellington group, shooting a tidy 74.  The rest of the team currently sit in the middle of the field. The leader of the day - Hiroki Miya  from Russley - shot an impressive 6 under at 66.

Round 2 will prove to be a bit of an uphill battle to beat such an impressive opening round score, but anything can happen.   All of the Wellington players are chaffing at the bit to get back out there for the second round to improve on their first day performance.  Nothing like a bit of motivation after a tough day at the office.  Following todays Round, the 5 "locals" could be seen on the driving range, and practice facilities till late into the day.  With such dedication we are sure to see some movement tomorrow, hopefully seeing our boys in at least the top 20 by the end of Round 2.

The Tournament Leaderboard can be found on the NZ Golf website.
