Freyberg Masters 2014 - Day 4

If the team was to pull a creditable finish for the tournament out of the fire then it had to beat Manawatu/Wanganui in the morning and follow it up against Poverty Bay in the afternoon. Manawatu had previously beaten Wellington at the last meeting of the teams in August so It was important to get off to a fast start. Darin had a half followed by close 1 up win to Mike Ursin. It tightened up with Frank going down, before strong wins to John and Malcolm secured the team win. The team was buoyed by the result and even with the weather proving a challenge - it was very much 4 seasons in one day. If the team was to achieve their aspirations of improving from last years 7th placing, a win over Poverty Bay was a must and The team delivered in style with a comprehensive 5-0 demolition. Huge wins to Malcolm and Darin 7&6, comfortable wins to John and Frank and a 17th hole 2&1 win to Mike finished off a great day. It was a top effort to get 8.5 points out of 10 and 2 team points. The final game against Waikato tomorrow is now being looked forwarded to as a chance to advance further up the team standings.
