Freyberg Masters 2014 - Day 2

DAY 2
Round 3:
After yesterday's weather affected rounds, the day dawned mild, and there wasn't a breath of wind for the first nine. The Wellington team put their early morning range work into practice to lead the home team Northland 3 matches to 2 after nine holes. When the wind came up during the second nine, Wellington initially improved to a 4 to 1 advantage with just 4 holes to play. However with some great play from Northland down the straight, only Darin and Malcolm had wins, the latter finishing 2 up against Saali Herewini, a past top player and Wellington representative. The Wellington team were disappointed to loose the match 3 to 2, and felt they had somewhat let a good chance to win slip away.

Round 4:
It was North Harbour in the afternoon and the team was targeting a win to get things back on track. After 9 holes Wellington was up in 2 matches, down in 2 and square in the other. The second nine was a closely fought battle with 4 games going to 18 and the other finishing on the 17th. Unfortunately Wellington couldn't find a win from the close games and 3 halves were all that could be mustered in going down 3.5 to 1.5. Like the morning it was a frustrating end to a round that promised more. Michael, John and Darin all had to make significant putts on the last hole to get their half points but as a team it was again a case of what could have been.
